Two workers at a refrigeration company were working on a scissor lift in a freezer when the lift failed. They were stuck at height in freezing temperatures with only their Blackline devices to help them out of the situation.
David and Rick were each equipped with Blackline Safety's G7 devices, and each pulled the SOS latch once they realized they were trapped. Without a quick enough rescue, there was potential for serious health risk — and the clock was ticking.
Response Within Seconds
Within one second, the alert was received by the Safety Operations Center (SOC), Blackline's 24/7 monitoring service. In fewer than 10 seconds, an agent called the first device. The agent spoke with Rick, who advised of their situation and requested emergency services be dispatched. After confirming the two men were not hurt and attempting to call their emergency contacts, Blackline dispatched EMS to the exact location.
Blackline's SOC stayed on the line with Rick until after EMS was dispatched, confirming that help was on the way. Rick and his colleague were advised they could pull the latch at any time or contact the SOC in the event the emergency worsened, after which Rick chose to end the call on his device to wait for EMS to arrive.
Visibility For the Whole Team
The agent called the emergency contact to follow up once EMS arrived and was informed that David had been released and that Rick was in the process of being lowered from the lift.
Issue Resolved
Once safely back on the ground, Rick texted "issue resolved," which Blackline confirmed over the phone. Not long after the SOS latch was pulled and EMS was dispatched, the men were freed, their leaders were informed, and the process to document the incident using Blackline safety data had begun.
Thanks to Blackline's connected safety technology, Rick and David were able to immediately call for help, speak with a real person, and have their exact location sent to emergency services, making the rescue as fast and seamless as possible while up against freezing temperatures.
